Strategy and leadership in AI and quantum

Find your bearings where AI meets quantum.

FARO MAR brings strategy and leadership to the newest technologies, and connects them with people through art, culture and education.

Our focus

Two currents, one sea.

A faro gives ships a fixed point in open water. That is our work: a steady reference in a fast-moving field, drawn from people who built the platforms rather than watched them from shore.

AI for quantum

AI is already improving quantum systems today: models that help write quantum code, reinforcement learning that finds better circuits, and machine learning for error mitigation and calibration.

Quantum for AI

Quantum may reshape parts of AI, but not all of it. We help you separate credible near-term opportunities from long-range research, so you invest on the right horizon.

Hybrid systems

The future stack is classical, quantum and AI working together. We help design for that stack now, from orchestration and agentic workflows to high-performance computing.

Services

How we work with you.

  1. Strategy and leadership

Independent technology assessments and roadmaps for boards and executive teams: what is real, what is hype, and when to move.

  2. AI agents in practice

Design and review of agentic systems and AI-assisted engineering, with a focus on what holds up beyond the demo.

  3. Quantum + AI architecture

Hands-on guidance on hybrid workflows, software stacks, platform choices and integration with your existing infrastructure.

  4. Executive education

Briefings and workshops that give leadership and technical teams a shared, accurate picture of where these technologies stand.

Human and social impact

Technology is a human story.

Alongside our strategy work, we connect AI and quantum with art, culture and education. Some of these activities are non-profit projects that open new technologies to more people. A few examples from our team:

Performance

The Poet vs the Machine

A multimedia show of spoken word, electronic sound and generative visuals, created with an AI digital twin of poet Marcos de la Fuente. Brooklyn, December 2025, with the Poetry+AI=ART collective.

Art exhibition

AI-Poet's Thinking

An interactive sculpture: visitors type a title on a classical typewriter, and an AI model writes a poem that is projected onto the wall. Presented at ELO 2022 in Como, Italy.

Technical and startup internships

ANFAIA

Summer scholarships where students build open-source AI projects with a network of mentors, in areas such as health and climate, then present their results in public.

The team

Engineers and artists, same crew.

Built quantum's first public harbor.

Ismael Faro founded FARO MAR after helping put quantum computing in the hands of the public. He was the architect of IBM Quantum Experience, the first public quantum cloud platform, launched in 2016, and is a co-creator of Qiskit, the open-source quantum software development kit.

As Vice President of Quantum + AI at IBM Research and an IBM Distinguished Engineer, he led work on Quantum-Centric Supercomputing with high-performance computing leaders, on AI tools that optimize the quantum software stack, and on open-source agentic systems.

He is President of ANFAIA, an association that promotes AI among young students in Spain, has co-founded startups in edge computing, distributed computing and AI, and has served as General Chair of the IEEE Quantum Software Week.

Code as an artistic medium.

Mariel Martínez leads Art and Culture at FARO MAR. A computer engineer and interactive visual artist, Mariel connects technology with exhibitions, performances and cultural programs.

As a member of the New York collective Poetry+AI=ART, Mariel is responsible for programming and generative visuals in The Poet vs the Machine, and represented the collective with the interactive sculpture AI-Poet's Thinking at ELO 2022.

Speaking

On stage, in English and Spanish.

Ismael speaks to engineers, researchers and executives about how AI and quantum computing are shaping each other, and what that means in practice. Recent stages span the United States, Canada, Spain, Mexico and Chile.
